Rustic Kitchen… PART II~ The Problems

The Problems

BEFORE kitchen with screaming pink primer

This is my story.  Now, I’m not saying a small kitchen isn’t charming and functional.  The size of the kitchen in this house just did not fit with the layout.  A four bedroom house is meant to service quite a few people, and everybody that saw the kitchen agreed.  So the small size was the first problem that needed to be addressed.

The kitchen was located in the middle of the great room so expanding the house footprint outward was not really an option….especially when you consider the second problem-budget.  We had none.  No, I don’t mean we had “no budget the sky’s the limit” situation; we had a “no money to even make a budget” situation!

The big positives were the layout was functional, a large hallway pantry and the house was newer so everything was in good condition and in working order.  This allowed us to take our time planning and slowly collecting up materials.  This project was not finished quickly.  If it was being filmed for a TV home improvement show they would have walked off the set a long time ago.  I think that that is important for all DIY home improvement buffs to understand.  We are disillusioned at the time it takes to complete projects because of ½ hour DIY TV shows and weekend makeover shows.  Patience and persistence are important in completing your home projects.
